How I Can Help
Two connected areas of care, tailored to you
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT) is a specialized therapy that focuses on improving the strength, coordination, and function of the muscles of the mouth, tongue, lips, and face. These muscles play an important role in breathing, chewing, swallowing, speech, facial growth, and healthy oral development.
When these muscles are not working together efficiently, it can lead to an orofacial myofunctional disorder (OMD). OMT uses individualized exercises and habit retraining to establish healthy oral resting posture and movement patterns. Therapy is always tailored to the unique needs of each child or adult.
OMT is often provided as part of a collaborative team approach and may complement care from dentists, orthodontists, ENTs, physicians, sleep specialists, and other healthcare professionals.
You or your child may benefit from an evaluation if you notice any of the following:
- Open-mouth posture or habitual mouth breathing
- Difficulty breathing comfortably through the nose
- Tethered oral tissues (e.g., tongue-tie) that may impact oral function
- Low or forward tongue resting posture
- Tongue thrust when swallowing
- Persistent speech sound difficulties despite intervention
- Thumb or finger sucking and other oral habits
- Difficulty chewing or managing certain foods
- Lips that remain apart at rest
- Teeth grinding or clenching (bruxism)
- Frequent snoring or restless sleep
- Orthodontic relapse
Speech Therapy
You or your child may benefit from an evaluation if you notice any of the following:
- Speech sound errors (articulation difficulties)
- Phonological delays or disorders
- Persistent sound errors (such as difficulty with /r/, /s/, /l/, or /th/)
- Motor speech difficulties
- Mumbled or imprecise speech
- Difficulty carrying over corrected sounds into everyday conversation
